Bold Is a Woman Named Blair Kaplan
Some people study resilience. Blair Kaplan built her life on it — then built a global movement to hand it to everyone else.
"Resilience is the ability to bounce forward after a difficult time," she says. "You're never going back; you're only going forward." It's the kind of line that could anchor any keynote. But in Blair's case, it isn't a slogan she found. It's a truth she paid for.
On the surface, Blair is exactly the woman Bold&Zeal was built to celebrate: a builder, a leader, a woman who turned expertise into impact. A city girl from Winnipeg now grounded in the mountains of British Columbia, she became a social media marketing expert before the world had even agreed that "social media marketing" was a thing. She founded Blair Kaplan Communications, a PR agency she's run for well over a decade, working with global wellness, entertainment, and lifestyle brands. By every professional measure, she had arrived.
Then life came for everything at once.
In the span of roughly two years, Blair lost both of her parents — her mother to an unexpected cancer, and her father shortly after. She navigated a miscarriage. Her wasband suffered a heart attack and nearly died. Any one of these could level a person. They arrived together, layered on top of a world already in upheaval. Most people would have gone quiet and disappeared into the private darkness of it.
Blair, characteristically, kept showing up.
She's honest that it wasn't instant, and she refuses to pretend otherwise. "Our mom died. I wasn't all of a sudden positive," she has said. "I hit a rock bottom where I was like, I can't feel like this anymore, what do I need to do?" Traditional therapy took her part of the way; when it stopped working, she kept searching for what would. Slowly, deliberately, she did the hardest work there is — she changed the way she thought so she could change how she lived. Not by overriding her grief, but by learning to move with it.
And here is where Blair's story stops being merely a survival story and becomes a movement. She didn't just heal in private. She created The Global Resilience Project — a community and social enterprise where people from around the world share their stories of overcoming life's hardest moments, so that no one has to feel alone in theirs. She partnered with her sister, Alana. She built the Navigating Grief Framework, a practical, neuroscience-backed toolkit for strengthening what she calls the "resilience muscle." She wrote books — international bestsellers — including the RESILIENT A.F. anthology series that gives strangers a page to tell the truth about the hardest thing that ever happened to them.
She has a phrase for what she did with all of it: turning pain into purpose. "I am turning my pain into purpose," she says. "Knowing that The Global Resilience Project is helping so many people move through life's most difficult situations helps me navigate my own challenges."
She writes about grief with a precision only the initiated have. "Grief isn't just sadness," she says. "It's the silence where laughter used to be, the emptiness of reaching for your phone to call someone who isn't there anymore." And then, the reframe that defines her whole philosophy: "The deeper our love, the more profound our grief." She doesn't sell people a way around the pain. She teaches them a way forward through it.
Today, that work reaches the world. Blair has been featured in Forbes, USA Today, Entrepreneur, CBC Radio, Psychology Today, and Thrive Global. USA Today named her one of its top 10 conscious female leaders to watch. She was named Top Grief and Resilience Expert of the Year 2024. Her life story is the subject of MyStory, a television feature streaming on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+, and Google Play. She speaks from stages across North America and beyond — including for the NHL's Winnipeg Jets' Project 11 — and co-hosts the RESILIENT A.F. with Blair and Alana podcast with her sister.
That is what makes Blair Kaplan bold. Not that she endured, because plenty of people endure. It's that she refused to let the hardest season of her life be private and wasted. She stayed visible. She kept building. She took the silence where laughter used to be and filled it with a global community of people learning to bounce forward.
Bold&Zeal was founded on a single belief: that strength, confidence, and forward motion are choices, not circumstances. Blair Kaplan is living proof of the thesis. She turned adversity into action, grief into a framework, and personal loss into a platform that helps thousands move forward. She lives the exact sentence at the heart of the brand — you're never going back, you're only going forward.
She doesn't just talk about living bold. She earned the right to teach it.
